An encounter with model Karlie Kloss, passing through Madrid, is a treat. K. K. (Kisses and Kookies). Or see life through the filter of optimism.
Want a cookie??». So get Karlie Kloss (Illinois, 1992) reporters when we meet her at a luxury hotel in the capital and we insisted we get closer to her, almost two meters of stunning elegance clad in midi skirts and kitten heels, because “I do not bite,” she jokes, smiles while betraying some funny accented fangs, much like the girl Kirsten Dunst in “Interview with the Vampire”. What cookies are not accidental, they are their Karlie Kookies, solidarity brand that donates part of the proceeds to the FEED Foundation to support soup kitchens.
To compete you have to take positions, and that arduous profession is the ‘model-that-takes-one-first-place-in-Models.com’ (web-leading barometer strictly definitive classification of the tops) also internalized this basic principle of marketing. Some enhance the seductiveness of a hair cut garfon (Saskia de Brauw), others playing androgyny (Hanne Gaby) and should not give trouble to win her agent scandal blow (Cara Delevingne). You can also choose to be healed and that the eternal good face, kindness and sympathy are your strengths. Karlie Kloss is clear that this option is its differential value.
With only 21 years is one of the most important models of the decade and the lovely face of brands like Juicy Couture, Louis Vuitton, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs or Coach. So far, her work, her life we know through Instagram. Karlie loves this tool: «In a profession in which you are often subjected to the creative vision of another, Instagram has the power to allow me to express my identity and point of view», said, and through her social network is where you want to become her best friend, Karlie is one of the most empathetic models ‘ to forward’. The backstage of the latest Victoria’s Secret shares update with fresh baked cookies and risky sport which involves picking fruit with your older sister climbing a tree.
Born in the Midwest she was discovered 13 years in a local charity fashion show in a mall in Missouri, to support a sick friend with cancer. She acknowledges that the gracefulness to walk and pose is due to the formation of classical dancer and Karlie formula equal to perfection to add and improve: she makes cookies for solidarity, thoroughly documented their delicious breakfast #NOFILTER and plan a walk in New York later this month in the company of her followers (already hung on @ karliekloss the call to your particular # instawalk).
In an ideal world, all the girls would smile like Karlie, who, in turn, in another life, looks like being the best cheerleader in American highschools. Or the protagonist of a gentle romantic comedy that include ice skating, reindeer mittens and rough trips that end happily. But playing should not be your thing, and as we saw this week on her visit to Madrid to serve as the first ambassador of Coach boutique in Spain; 10 on marketing, outstanding in picture, excellent in spontaneity and a zero in planned strategy.
GRAZIA dedicated this number to you, you are at the cover, the art of giving. What is for you the word gift?
A gift is primarily an expression of love, for a birthday, because you return from vacation, or just because… When I make a gift spend much time thinking about what you would hope that person, do you need … It always wrap myself, is a small measure involving mime, creativity… This part is more valuable than what’s inside and you have bought with money.
Have a recurring gift that you know you will always be right?
Every Christmas my friends keenly anticipated my famous toffee. Sending Christmas packages made by me to those who have supported me and care, magazine editors, photographers … Perhaps the only reason I want to work with me is my toffee … (laughs). Have chocolate, sugar, butter .., are made all the worse in the world. They are a dream!
Among the famous toffee cookies and your sweet looks that gives you’re great…
My family is very big, we are four sisters and was in all meals when we met. Cooking for someone, like a gift, is a way of expressing love. I feel satisfied feeding people also see the result of your work, you enjoy it … My mother and grandmother taught me to cook. I love the kitchen, is a science. I think I learned to decipher recipes before reading.
Many models have tattoos to preserve her identity, even dressed and made-up for photos, and you have recognized that through lnstagram is where you find the best way of expression, is it?
As a model, often have no control over how I am perceived, I have no voice, I’m just a mannequin poses with clothes, period. With no barriers Instagram, I can show how I am, how to fix my car and I land in a new city. A cover of a magazine, however important it may be, does not reach as many people as social networks, for the simple reason that is not available in all countries. A simple Instagram photo transcends any limit worth a thousand words. And not wanting to get into complexities, I just want to convey my energy, how I feel or what I do with my free time …
So you do not have any tattoos?
I do not need because I have something to differentiate myself: my height.I am about ten inches taller (measured 1.85 cml that most people (laughs).
And cut your hair? Is it part of a message?
No, it was only because I fancied a change. A particular hair cut is an expression of how you are, your style. It is bound up with how you feel and your self esteem. So, in English, when you have a bad day, you say that we have had a bad hair day …
Does the bright side a comfortable place in fashion, or wins the scandal?
Not only fashion but all areas seem attracted by controversy, there is the appeal of the confrontation. That’s not my style, I’ve never been embroiled in scandal or anything crazy. I am as I am, and so I have been fortunate to be supported by industry. Being end does not hold long-term. My family has supported me in every step I took on this job: my mother always travels with me last week I managed to get all my loved ones could be present in the Victoria’s Secret-my sisters with me to Europe when they vacation … I’ve been so wrapped up and that always affects the way you are.
You just throw a curious announcement among your followers of lnstagram. Those sending the most original photos you can share a walk through New York in the form of photographic mini-marathon, it’s your # instawalk. You care so much to your fans. Do you have any heroes? Did you know?
Yes, Christy Turfington. I admire her for her beauty, style and the work she does off the catwalk. She uses her fame to try to help others with her foundation Every Woman Counts. For me it is a reference, it’s what I aspire to become. In addition to the solidarity with Karlie’s Kookies, I would positively inspire young girls, encourage them to have high self esteem, you feel safe. In my family we are almost all women and we learned from my older sisters that self-esteem influences the achievement of your goals. I feel good knowing that my health care, I eat well, but mostly I follow my education: I read a lot and I’m taking a course to learn how to program computers and build web pages, I find it very interesting computer language. I want to help other girls like my sisters to me. But back to idols.. the other day in the show of Victoria’s Secret, for the first time, I met Taylor Swift, and I found her so cool! We connect, we’re soulmates.
